Veterinarian Technician
Bowie
Bowie is our head vet tech and will be a board certified technician upon completion of her current studies. Originally from New York state, she was raised by ski school instructors and spent more days on the mountain than not. Bowie moved to Crested Butte in 2011 to be a ski instructor when her local mountain downsized their instructor staff. After spending time in seasonal jobs, like ski school and landscaping, Bowie decided to pursue her childhood interest in veterinary medicine. She is happy to be settled into the more steady, yet always exciting, world of being a vet tech. When not at the clinic, Bowie spends her time with her three cats, three dogs, husband, and preferably is recreating outside or gardening.

Veterinarian Assistant
Andy
Andy spent nearly two decades living and working on a horse ranch, where daily life revolved around powerful animals, long hours, and learning how quickly horses respond to a person’s energy. One horse in particular left a lasting impression. Felipe, a World Champion paint horse born on the ranch, grew into the strongest animal Andy had ever handled. Although Felipe never gave him a reason to feel unsafe, Andy realized his own nervousness was beginning to affect the horse. Spending extra time around Felipe helped build trust between them, and one unforgettable moment confirmed how important staying calm could be. When Felipe suddenly reared after spotting his reflection in an Airstream trailer, Andy stayed steady until the horse relaxed and safely continued on. The experience deepened his respect for animals and strengthened his desire to continue working closely with them.
After moving to Almont, Andy spent years working in restaurants before deciding he missed being around animals. An online job posting for Animal Hospital of Crested Butte caught his attention. The years he spent caring for horses gave him confidence to apply, and he joined the team as a Veterinary Assistant.
Andy enjoys the close-knit feeling of practicing veterinary medicine in a small town. Seeing familiar faces walk through the hospital doors and helping friends care for sick or injured pets makes the work especially meaningful. Outside the clinic, Andy enjoys fishing with his rat terrier, Guaro, never far behind.
Living in Almont also gives Andy access to some of his favorite fishing spots. A few summers ago, after days of catching smaller trout in the same stretch of river, he reeled in a 32-inch rainbow trout while a friend watched from nearby cabins along the Taylor River. It remains one of his favorite outdoor memories.
